September 4, 2009 - So what is meant by the phrase "broadband-enabled TV"?
For TDG, to own a broadband-enabled TV has always meant that some solution (internal or external to the TV itself) serves to connect the TV display to a broadband Internet service so that it is capable of rendering Internet video on the TV. Is that simple enough? You own a broadband-enabled TV when you can watch Internet video on your TV via a broadband connection.
As illustrated below, TDG anticipates that by the end of 2009 there will be approximately 130 million households worldwide that have at least one broadband-enabled TV. By 2014, this number will have more than doubled to over 350 million households.

We write on the subject of broadband-enabled TVs constantly; this is not a new subject for us. The forecast above represents our latest expectations for how these platforms will diffuse among global households. By 2014, close to 360 million global households will have a TV capable of receiving and displaying online video, thus offering an alternative to traditional PayTV services such as cable or satellite TV.
By the way, this is just one of many such topics included in our latest report, Broadband Enabled TV: Rise of the OTT Provider. As a TDG Member, you have access to the full report. We encourage you take the time to read this new analysisand decide for yourself the direction this market will take.
