Hulu Adds Criterion Collection, Streaming Fellini, Bergman, and Other Art House Favorites to Viewers

Hulu has added the acclaimed Criterion Collection, featuring more than 150 classics from the world's greatest filmmakers, with an additional 650 films to be added soon. Directors including Antonioni, Bresson, Bunuel, Cocteau, Godard, Truffaut, Chaplin, and others populate the offering.

While each month a few of these films will be available for free on Hulu, Hulu Plus subscribers can view all of these classic films without commercials, precisely as the filmmaker intended. Can you imagine a Doritos commercial spliced into The Seventh Seal? Hulu says that won't happen, with pre-rolls being the chosen advertising mode for these classic films.

Criterion CEO Peter Becker celebrated the new relationship, calling it a "huge expansion of our reach." No doubt many Hulu Plus subscribers (including the author) are glad to see this collection available for streaming, especially to the living room TV.

All Things Digital noted that, while Netflix also offers some of the Criterion Collection, that deal is set to expire next year, giving Hulu exclusive access at that time.

As one subscriber commented, "You just earned my $7.99!" I couldn't agree more. Nicely done, Hulu.

It appears that some of the Criterion Hulu collection expire. Very disappointing.
