Summary

The TV is finally joining the family of connected devices. A huge array of CE manufacturers is beginning to deliver TV devices that also provide Internet video. They are responding to consumer pressure to be able to watch Internet video such as Netflix movies on the television. Game consoles, networked televisions, Blu-ray Players, hybrid STBs and broadband STBs are all scrambling to fulfill this new consumer need.

This report discusses the role each of these platforms will have in the delivery of Over-the-Top video to the television. It looks at the evolution of the market over the period 2009 through 2014 and reveals which of these platforms will dominate the delivery of OTT to the TV. This worldwide report breaks out the progress of each platform by geographic region. It also discusses the major success factors driving platform adoption. An example of each devices category is discussed to illustrate how the products are adapting to the OTT challenge in the real world.

It is the second report in this series. The first report, Broadband-Enabled TV: The Rise of the OTT Provider analyzes the market conditions, identifies key market trends and predicts likely market developments. Both reports are updates to Broadband Video: Redefining the Television Experience, released in 2007.
