South Pole Appoints Dedicated Chief Risk Officer and Restructures Legal, Compliance, and Risk Departments

On November 10, 2023, the South Pole Group made significant leadership changes and outlined its commitment to bolstering the organization’s risk management and carbon project due diligence processes.

A key aspect of this initiative was appointing a dedicated Chief Risk Officer and restructuring internal legal and operational teams.

These adjustments aim to ensure the highest risk management standards and corporate integrity across South Pole’s global projects and operations to set new benchmarks in the voluntary carbon market.

The South Pole has taken a comprehensive approach to these changes, introducing new internal teams and roles as necessary.

While multiple departments are affected, the primary focus has been enhancing legal, compliance, and risk management functions.

Antoine Prédour has been named the company’s inaugural Chief Risk Officer, joining the Executive Committee and reporting to Interim CEO John Davis.

Antoine will collaborate closely with the Audit & Risk Committee at the board level and concentrate on enhancing South Pole’s risk functions and policies, initially focusing on carbon projects.

With extensive experience in climate finance and project risk assessment, Antoine is well-equipped to lead these efforts.

Bamshad Houshyani has also been appointed Senior Director of Change Lead Risk, and Julia Storm joins as Associate Director, bolstering the risk team’s capabilities.

Kushal Bhimjiani, a seasoned English solicitor, has been appointed General Counsel for Corporate, Regulatory, and Compliance matters.

Reporting to Interim CEO John Davis, Kushal will oversee strategic transactions, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.

This strategic realignment underscores South Pole’s commitment to upholding the highest corporate governance and regulatory compliance standards.

Zoltan Pinter assumes the newly created role of Chief of Staff to the CEO, tasked with driving organizational performance and overseeing internal transformation initiatives.

With a background in implementing organizational transformations across various regions, Zoltan’s expertise will be instrumental in guiding the South Pole through its next growth phase.

John Davis, Interim CEO, expressed confidence in the reorganized senior team’s ability to deliver on these initiatives, emphasizing the company’s commitment to innovation and leadership in the voluntary carbon market.

He thanked employees for their dedication and pledged continued updates on further measures and developments.
